About field hospital

The Finnish Red Cross field hospital helps approximately 100 people daily. Up until now, over 40 000 people have been treated and over 400 babies have been delivered safely. Significant patient groups include pregnant women, children and surgical patients.

In addition to treatment of acute diseases, the hospital offers help for fractures, burns and difficult pregnancies. Children have a dedicated playground and psychosocial support is available for all those in need. Over 100 local and international aid workers of different professions run this 60 bed hospital.

The hospital was requested by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in September 2017 as a part of the population movement operation. It was deployed jointly by the Finnish and Norwegian Red Cross. The Finnish Red Cross, together with partner Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, will run the field hospital until the end of 2018.
